80年代P-FUNKの大傑作と言われるアルバムで、パーラメントやファンカデリックが解散状態にあった時期に、P-FUNK軍団総出演で、George Clinton, Bootsy Collins, Gary Shider, Eddie Hazel, Fred Wesley に加え、Sly Stone やBobby Womack も参加して制作されました。
なにしろこのバンド破綻寸前というか破綻してるんでしょう。パーラメントが所属していたカサブランカ・レコードが、親会社ポリグラムによる買収や経営上の混乱で崩壊、バンド名の権利や過去の作品の印税トラブル、大規模な「マザーシップ」ツアーによる負債や、ずさんな経理管理により、グループの財政は破綻寸前の状態にあり、契約上のトラブル、深刻な財政難、により中心メンバーは相次いで脱退していったので「法的に使えなくなったバンド名の代わり」として新たに名乗った P-Funk All-Stars での起死回生の一発になったわけです。全盛期の活動を終えて破綻していた Sly Stone の助け舟みたいな側面もあるんですかね。

Generator Pop 生楽器主体の70年代型ファンクから、ドラムマシンやシンセサイザーを多用したエレクトロ・ファンクへの移行を先導した楽曲で、Prince のミネアポリス・サウンドからの影響や、当時のトレンドをクリントン流にポップに昇華したアプローチが見られます
Acupuncture 1曲目のエレクトロ・ファンクに対して、Pファンク本来のドロドロとしたサイケデリックでフリーキーなディープ・ファンク。「快楽のための痛み（Pain-for-pleasure）」がテーマで、失恋による心の痛みを、体に針を刺して治療する「鍼灸」のイメージに重ね合わせています。
One Of Those Summers 主役は、Ohio Playersのリーダーであり、『One Nation Under a Groove』の立役者でもある天才マルチプレイヤーWalter "Junie" Morrison。この曲でもガラリと雰囲気を変え、スローテンポでメロウ、かつどこか切なくノスタルジックなドゥーワップ調、ソウル・バラードになってます。カッコよし。
Catch A Keeper 80年代型のエレクトロニックなキーボード・アレンジを基盤としてキャッチーでありながらも泥臭いファンクネスを失わない楽曲。少し古臭いかも。
Pumpin' It Up ブーツィー特有の、フィルター系のエフェクター（ミュートロンなど）を深くかけたウネる変態ベースラインが全編を支配しており、一聴して彼とわかるベース・エンターテインメントが展開されています。「テンションをブチ上げろ！」という肉体的なエネルギーに満ちておりファンキーなボーカルの掛け合いが、フロアを煽るパーティー・チューン。
Copy Cat 1982年の大ヒット曲「Atomic Dog」に対するBootsy からの「猫サイドからの返答（Feline response）」 で、「犬を連れてきて、猫をつまみ出せ！（Let's bring in the dog and put out the cat）」で、楽曲がスタートします。パクリ・模倣ミュージシャンへの強烈なディスタイトルの「Copy Cat（物真似野郎、模倣者）」でブラックユーモアに満ちた当時の音楽業界やライバルへの痛烈なメッセージ。まあ多くの音楽は模倣から始まるもんだと思いますが、オリジナルのように語って金を儲けるのが気に食わんて感じでしょうか。ミャミャミャミャー♪
Hydraulic Pump 1980年代初頭、ファンクの先駆者であるSly Stone は、深刻な薬物問題を抱え、音楽業界から孤立し、事実上の破産状態。かつてスライの音楽から多大な影響を受けていた George Clinton は、彼をPファンクのセッションに招き入れ、スタジオと生活の場を提供して全面支援。
いつもの混沌としたファンクだけではなく、クラシックなソウルもあり、ミャミャミャ～とくるニヤニヤしてしまう作品です🎶
