本日のCD Bill Evans / Live At Art D'Lugoff's Top Of The Gate

　1968年10月23日のニューヨークのライブ・ハウス Village Gate (ビレッジゲイト)２階でライブのセットリスト通りに収録した完全未発表音源で１枚目は First Set、２枚目は Second Set なので曲順もそのままに収録されていて Emily、 Yesterdays、 'Round Midnight は両ステージでのセットリストに入っているのでその演奏を聴き比べもできるマニアにはなんとも嬉しい音源です。さらに最近の未発表音源では定番のメンバーやトップ・オブ・ザ・ゲイトの写真、当時のポスターが収録された28 頁のブックレットもついています。Art D'Lugoff は Village Gate のオーナーで1958年に160 BleeckerStreet の1階と地下にクラブをオープンし、全盛期には2階が Top Of The Gate と呼ばれるパフォーマンス・スペースになっていたのことで、Village Gate の録音での私の所有音源は現在他では B B King / Live & Well があり、ジャズが主体のようではありますがジミヘンなどの公演も行われていたようです。

　音源は、当時コロンビア大学の学生だった Resonance Records の社長 George Klabin (ジョージ･クラビン) が、カレッジFM局のために収録したものだそうです。各楽器のバランスも良く録れていて客席との距離感も適度にあり少し鮮明さに欠けるようには思えるが、発掘ライブ音源としてはかなり状態は良いと思います。

　さらに1968年10月はドラマーの Marty Morell (マーティ･モレル) が参加した直後の録音でもあり、ビルはリハーサルをしないと言われていることからも一緒の演奏経験は少ないはずだが見事にマッチした演奏ではないだろうか。Eddie Gomez (エディ・ゴメス) は1966年からビルとのコンビなので、遠慮も何もなくアタックの強いゴリゴリとした演奏。さらにこのライブでのエバンスはアタックの強い音で、男性的に豪快に前に前に突進するような力強い演奏が印象的です🎶🎹

　とにかく発表音源の多いエバンスの作品です。気になるので本アルバムでの収録曲が、どぐらい私の現在の市所有音源で演奏されているの調べてみました。California Here I Come のみが、今のところ、この盤のみでした。
